Our modernisation agenda places a heavy focus on uplifting technology, including simplification and digitisation across the business, and we need an exceptional Technology Legal Counsel to support us on our journey, providing independent, quality, commercially focused legal advice to the QBE Group.Your new roleReporting into the Special Counsel in the Technology & Commercial team, you will be supporting with the management of legal issues arising from, and negotiation of a broad range of technology and general commercial matters, including outsourcing, software licensing, SaaS, telecoms, and professional services.In this role, you will partner with the business, including global Legal, Technology & Operations, Procurement, and Compliance to support the development of pragmatic global solutions that enable QBE's strategic priorities.Participating in legal negotiations and advising on a range of commercial contracts, with a focus on complex global IT agreements.Reviewing and drafting amendments to supply agreements.Proactively identifying legal issues and assisting in the development of strategies and solutions that effectively minimise legal issues, including those arising from emerging technologies.Supporting the Technology & Commercial Legal Team to act as an internal expert to provide legally sound, strategic, and commercial legal advice to internal customers to assist them in achieving their objectives.Promoting the value of the Legal function to the wider business and developing and maintaining strong, sustainable peer relationships with internal clients.Undertaking research and/or providing advice on issues affecting the company including privacy, cyber, AI, IP, and environmental social governance.Proactively identifying legal issues and counseling management to assist in the development of strategies and solutions that effectively minimise legal issues and risks.The interview process will consist of 2-3 stages of interviews and background checks.About youLaw Degree - admitted to practice as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction or other common law jurisdiction (e.g., NZ, UK, or US).Exceptional knowledge of IT and contract law.A good understanding of privacy, cyber, and data protection laws beneficial, or interest in developing knowledge in these areas.Knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to financial services clients relating to technology and material outsourcing transactions.At least 5 years post-admission experience acquired in either a recognised corporate law firm or legal department of ASX 50 corporation (or foreign equivalent) in IT and general commercial matters.Highly effective communication both written and verbal with strong interpersonal skills.About QBEWe can never really predict what's around the corner, but at QBE we're asking the right questions to enable a more resilient future - helping those around us build strength and embrace change to their advantage.
