The opportunity

Your new role
Reporting into the Special Counsel in the Technology & Commercial team, you will be supporting with the management of legal issues arising from, and negotiation of a broad range of technology and general commercial matters, including outsourcing, software licensing, SaaS, telecoms, and professional services.
Participating in legal negotiations and advise on a range of commercial contracts, with a focus on complex global IT agreements. Reviewing and drafting amendments to supply agreements. Proactively identify legal issues and to assist in the development of strategies and solutions that effectively minimise legal issues, including those arising from emerging technologies. Support the Technology & Commercial Legal Team to act as an internal expert to provide legally sound, strategic and commercial legal advice to internal customers to assist them to achieve their objectives. Promote the value of the Legal function to the wider business and develop and maintain strong, sustainable peer relationships with internal clients. Undertake research and/or provide advice on issues affecting the company including privacy, cyber, AI and environmental social governance. Proactively identify legal issues and counsel management to assist in the development of strategies and solutions that effectively minimise legal issues and risks. The interview process will consist of 2-3 stages of interviews and background checks.
About you Law Degree - admitted to practice as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction or other common law jurisdiction (e.g. NZ, UK or US). Exceptional knowledge of IT and contract law. A good understanding of privacy, cyber and data protection laws beneficial, or interest in developing knowledge in these areas. Knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to financial services clients relating to technology and material outsourcing transactions. At least 5 years post admission experience acquired in either a recognised corporate law firm or legal department of ASX 50 corporation (or foreign equivalent) in IT and general commercial matters. Highly effective communication both written and verbal with strong interpersonal skills. About QBE
