Position Accountabilities What You'll Be Doing: The Technical Underwriting Manager Motor is responsible for: The identification, design, development and implementation of new and innovative Domestic Motor Underwriting Guidelines, both Core and Discretionary, aimed at improving overall risk selection Ongoing review and enhancement of existing Domestic Motor Underwriting Guidelines aimed at optimising business outcomes and customer experience Design and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives within the Motor Underwriting system and processes, including ongoing referral automation, to ensure they remain fit for purpose and keep pace with a growing and increasingly complex Domestic Motor portfolio Providing coaching and support to Production Underwriters, including escalations Providing subject matter expertise to stakeholders across both the Product division and the broader business on complex technical content, including systems and processes that deal with Underwriting Guidelines, risk acceptability and/or referrals User Acceptance testing of Underwriting related system changes Regular market and competitor analysis Management of a team of Technical Motor Underwriters / subject matter experts (SMEs) Qualifications and Experience What You'll Bring to the Table: 10+ years of General Insurance underwriting, product design, product/ portfolio management and/or claim experience; Retail Motor (Car) Insurance specific experience will be highly regarded Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, e.g.
business administration, economics commerce, law, finance, etc.
and/or professional qualification (e.g.
ANZIIF) preferred Track record of driving successful business performance In-depth knowledge/ understanding of short-tail insurance product(s), underwriting and rating methods, systems, and procedures – including drivers and levers of profitable growth Well-developed and demonstrated understanding of the legislative, regulatory, and compliance obligations to operate in the insurance industry Our Perks Location – Toowong Close to a variety of public transport and easy parking options, the Toowong office has excellent end of trip facilities (including secure bike storage and showers), outdoor spaces and plenty of modern collaborative areas to work and connect with colleagues.

Qualifications and Experience 10+ years General Insurance underwriting, product design, product/ portfolio management and/or claim experience; Retail Motor (Car) Insurance specific experience will be highly regarded; Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, e.g.
business administration, economics, commerce, law, finance, etc.
and/or professional qualification (e.g.

Well-developed and demonstrated understanding of the legislative, regulatory and compliance obligations to operate in the insurance industry.
Knowledge of relevant regulatory framework (both current and upcoming changes), compliance and insurance legislation.
The ability to effectively engage stakeholders at all levels of the organisation to drive measurable commercial outcomes for the business.
Excellent presentation and communication skills – both written and verbal, with experience managing stakeholders, partners and vendors.
Sound numerical and analytical skills to monitor and interpret insurance portfolio data.
A superior problem-solving ability.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
A "can do", team-focused attitude.
Ability to work autonomously while maintaining focus.
Creating and maintaining a high-performance culture.
Working knowledge of common application software, e.g.
