It is located in the Faculty of Science and is recognised nationally and internationally for its excellence in research and teaching. It offers world class undergraduate psychology degrees, as well as postgraduate professional Masters training in Clinical and Forensic Psychology, an online Graduate Diploma program, and a PhD research program with over 120 students. 40 academic staff conduct experimental research in many areas of Psychology, including behavioural and cognitive neuroscience, perception, learning, memory and cognition, as well as health, social, developmental, clinical and forensic psychology. The School has well equipped research and teaching facilities and attracts outstanding staff and students from Australia and overseas. UNSW is located 5 km from the centre of Sydney and is close to other research centres, teaching hospitals, transport, shopping, and beaches.The Technical Support Officer plays a key role within the School of Psychology at UNSW, working closely with academic staff, technical staff, and students to provide high quality technical support in teaching and research laboratories. This role has a particular focus on supporting the operation of online research activities for researchers within the School, including developing and providing related training.About the roleLEVEL 6 ($100k – $107k) plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loadingFixed Term – 2 yearsFull time (35 hours)The role reports to the Senior Technical Officer and has no direct reports.Specific responsibilities for this role include:Support the rollout of and provide the day-to-day operational support required to deliver online research activities for research groups within the school.Collaborate with school-based researchers to develop online research activities involving various platforms including but not limited to Mturk, Prolific, Qualtrics and Pavlovia.Produce and curate support materials and resources related to online research platforms and deliver associated staff training through consultation with researchers.Contribute to organisational effectiveness by working in a transparent and consultative manner, sharing technical expertise, undertaking assigned development activities, maintaining cooperative working relationships with colleagues and seeking and responding to feedback.Provide support for the smooth and efficient running of the teaching and research laboratories through the provision of quality technical support, including the timely preparation for and turnaround of practical classes and/or labs.Provide technical assistance to staff and students, including the triage, diagnosis and remediation of technical issues in an efficient and timely manner.Provide support in the handling and disposal/destruction of confidential materials, both physical and digital.Provide support for the maintenance of equipment and instruments, including tasks such as electrical test tagging and replacement of consumable components.Manage the receiving of goods required for the school and record said goods in the relevant systems.Assist with the timely rollout and turnover of equipment within the school.Liaise with suppliers to source products and information, coordinate the repair of equipment and rectify issues.Proactively participate in the maintenance of the School asset register and, where applicable, ensure that all equipment is stored safely and labelled correctly.Proactively maintain and audit inventories to validate records, such as computer fleet and keys.Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.About the successful applicant(Selection Criteria)To be successful in this role you will have:A relevant qualification with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience.Demonstrated skills in construction, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair aspects of mechanical, electronic, or computing equipment relevant to Psychology teaching and research laboratories.Demonstrated experience with audiovisual equipment and digital teaching and learning technologies and managing or administering online research platforms.Ability to develop and implement practical and sustainable solutions in a high-pressure support environment, particularly in response to user support requests, and to generally improve outcomes for users of online research systems.Ability to apply knowledge of systems to maximise their potential and streamlined operation, and to contribute to quality improvement processes.Demonstrated knowledge of industry trends and active participation in keeping up to date in current application of online research technologies.Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage personal workloads, contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and provide proactive and innovative problem solving.Highly developed communication skills, with the capacity to design and deliver excellent training, and the ability to facilitate knowledge sharing.A strong service ethic and commitment to detail and accuracy.An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.You should systematically address the selection criteria listed within the position description in your application.Please apply online - applications will not be accepted if sent to the contact listed.Contact:John BolzanE: ****** close: October 9th, 2024Find out more about working at UNSW at www.unsw.edu.auUNSW is committed to equity diversity and inclusion.
