Contact Person: Alana Harris About the GroupThe Collections Services Group is responsible for the development, management, and preservation of the AIATSIS Collection.
About the Program AreaThe Collection Management Program sits within the Collection Services Group.
Key operational activities of the program include cataloguing, accessioning, and describing the AIATSIS Audiovisual, Photographic, Manuscript and Published collections.
Role SummaryThe Team Leader plays a key role in the development, management and documentation of AIATSIS collection materials.
This work involves:
Assessment, accessioning, cataloguing and describing AIATSIS collection materials.Development and review of collection management standards and procedures.Quality assurance.Collections research.Communicating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.Descriptive work, including creating finding aids, auditioning, and captioning.Supporting the Assistant Director and contributing to development and implementation of wider program and agency business plan, policies and procedures.The work involves the care and management of items with cultural sensitivities.
Key ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities of the role include:
Collaborate with the Assistant Director in managing the workflow including prioritising, allocating and undertaking the collection development and management activities.Undertake a review or development of policy, standards and procedural documents.Conduct research on collection materials and report its outcomes.Provide training and supervision and act on own and others' development needs.Contribute to the achievement of AIATSIS goals and objectives.Cultural capability - essentialRoles at AIATSIS require candidates to have an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and proven culturally appropriate engagement and communications skills.
Skills, knowledge and personal attributesTo be successful in this role, you will have well developed stakeholder engagement skills with a high level of cultural competency and an interest in sharing the story of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia.
You will come with the following skills, experience and attributes:
An understanding of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property Rights.Demonstrated experience in library and/or collection management systems.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Proven research and writing skills.Strong time management and organisational skills.Experience in providing training and motivating and supervising staff.A professional qualification in Librarianship and/or information studies.What we offerWe offer great salary conditions, superannuation, competitive leave entitlements, health benefits, study leave, and flexible working conditions.
