Team Leader - Major Crime Case Management

This is an excellent opportunity to lead a talented team, contribute to the advancement of forensic science and play a key role in supporting the Queensland justice system.
Please note that Forensic Science Queensland has recently been through a Machinery of Government change, and as of 1 July 2024, was administratively assigned to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG). Located in Coopers Plains, Brisbane, Forensic Science Queensland (FSQ) operates specialised Forensic Biology and Forensic Chemistry functions that support the criminal justice and coronial systems in Queensland.
The Role:As Team Leader, you will lead a team of forensic biology professionals, overseeing the efficient processing of casework, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, and driving operational improvements. You will manage resources, foster a positive and innovative team culture, and ensure compliance with relevant accreditation standards (NATA/ISO). Additionally, you will contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and the continuous improvement of forensic biology practices, while ensuring the effective delivery of services to clients and stakeholders within the justice system.
Key Responsibilities:Lead and manage a high-performing team, ensuring efficient case processing and adherence to quality standards.Oversee resource management in line with operational plans and forecasts.Ensure compliance with NATA/ISO accreditation and other legislative requirements.Foster a positive organisational culture through staff development, mentoring, and performance management.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service delivery and support FSQ's strategic objectives.Apply scientific expertise to solve complex casework challenges, interpret results, and present findings in court when required.What we are looking for:Proven experience in leading forensic biology teams and managing complex casework.Expertise in forensic biology techniques, including the analysis of materials, statistical interpretation of results, and report writing.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and stakeholders.Knowledge of NATA/ISO accreditation standards and experience in ensuring compliance with industry regulations.A Bachelor's degree or higher in Forensic Science, Biology, Applied Science, or a related field is required. While not mandatory, postgraduate qualifications or recent publications in peer-reviewed forensic science journals would be highly regarded.
