OLSHT has exciting opportunities for multiple full-time teaching positions based in the remote location of Wadeye, NT (within the Thamarrurr Region of the Northern Territory, 420 km southwest of Darwin).
We are now accepting applications for the following teaching positions, commencing in Term 1, January 2025.
Health and Physical Education TeachersPrimary-Trained Teacher Willing to Teach Secondary Class of Young MenYou will be a part of the school's strategic direction, embracing our vision of fostering resilience and cultural understanding, by delivering a bilingual education program that sets high expectations for students and faculty.
Due to cultural sensitivity, we are seeking a qualified teacher, preferably male, to work with young men.
This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute in a culturally respectful and supportive environment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Delivering engaging and culturally sensitive lessons to studentsCollaborating with local and non-local staff to ensure a cohesive teaching approachImplementing the Australian Curriculum effectivelySupporting students with English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)Managing classroom behaviour through consistent and collective school-wide practicesAssisting in the development and implementation of individualised learning plansParticipating in community activities and fostering positive relationshipsUtilising collaborative teaching methods to enhance learning experiencesYour Skills: Educate and Make ImpactTo qualify, you will need a recognised teaching qualification and eligibility for Northern Territory Teacher Registration.
While not a prerequisite, previous background or experience in education systems of remote or rural areas will be highly valued.
Additionally, the following skills and background are essential:
Familiarity with the Australian CurriculumExperience with English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) and bilingual education practicesAbility to adapt to a remote and culturally diverse environmentA deep respect for Indigenous cultures and the ability to work alongside community membersAs our ideal candidate, you will possess patience, flexibility, and resilience that will make you succeed in this role, as well as an enthusiastic demeanour and a genuine interest in learning about Aboriginal culture, making you an ideal fit.
