Geraldton Senior High School (SHS) is an inclusive, diverse, and vibrant, growing school of choice located in a coastal, connected community. In 2019, the school transitioned to a Year 7 to 12 campus with an additional 3-year groups added to the school site. The school has adjusted well to this change and staff have worked to ensure younger students are catered for and provided with opportunities throughout their six years of schooling. The first group of Year 7 students will complete Year 12 in 2024.

The Role
We are seeking to appoint a Career Practitioner, a specialist teacher who will support the career development of students. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers with an interest in student career pathways. Our Career Practitioner will work with the school leadership team and embed career development and work exposure activities into curricular and co-curricular programs.
Career Practitioners should be innovators and have the ability to work collaboratively across a school. They will implement programs and provide resources to embed career development across learning areas. We are looking for a teacher that ideally enjoys working with students to help them imagine and connect with their future career aspirations. Confidence to make decisions and enact necessary curriculum reform will be important attributes for the role. Teachers in this specialist role should also be competent in the interpretation and analysis of system and school-based data.
To be successful for this role, a high level of knowledge about the diversity of career pathways, with an understanding of school contexts in relation to local employers, community agencies, and training providers is desirable. Career Practitioners should also have strong communication skills and be able to liaise with and share information easily with students, staff, parents, training providers, employers, and industry. The successful applicant will need to work collaboratively and flexibly with the local TAFE, and experience in organising excursions is highly desirable.
If you don't hold a recognised Graduate Certificate in Career Development, you will complete a qualification - which will be funded by the Department. Time will be made available for the successful applicant to complete the qualification, and study will be incorporated into the role in the first 12 months. If you already hold an equivalent qualification, recognition of prior learning may be possible.
The successful applicant appointed to the Career Practitioner position will be required to complete a Graduate Certificate in Career Development if you don't already hold one.
