About us Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state's energy system.
The organisation will drive delivery of world-class pumped hydro assets to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland's clean energy future.
The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.
About the role Reporting to the ICT Manager, the principal objective of the System Administrator's role will be to ensure the stable and efficient operation of Queensland Hydro's IT infrastructure.
This encompasses the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of cloud infrastructure, Saa S platforms, server systems, networks, and associated hardware and software components.
The System Administrator will also play a crucial role in implementing and enforcing security measures, optimising system performance, and proactively addressing issues to minimise downtime to maintain a secure, scalable, and reliable computing environment that enables seamless business operations and fosters innovation.
Key responsibilities in this position will include: Undertaking 3rd level device, application, and end-user support, in addition to managing incoming support requests and escalations via the IT Service desk.
Undertaking the set-up and configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and replacement of Queensland Hydro Technology Infrastructure and Assets.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams, providing technical support to end-users, and contributing to the overall IT strategy to meet the organisation's business objectives.
Monitoring and maintaining system availability, performance, and security.
Responsibility for the implementation and maintenance of integration of cloud platforms.
Assisting with the design, maintenance, and improvement of Queensland Hydro's Information and Cyber Security.
Supporting the implementation and undertaking responsibility for the maintenance of Identity governance, entitlement management, and role-based access control.
Responsibility for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Queensland Hydro's standard operating environment.
Creating and maintaining knowledge articles and documents.
Assisting with administration of user accounts, inclusive of On and Offboarding of users.
Assisting with the support of Share Point, permissions, folder creation, security, User and Group Management, Site Collection Administration, Backup and Restore, Permission Audits, Policy and Governance Enforcement.
Actively seeking and researching knowledge sources to maintain an up-to-date understanding of trends and developments in the information technology industry.
About you To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess: A minimum of five years' experience in a System Administrator/Level 3 Support Role with industry certifications.
Demonstrated proficiency in managing and maintaining various operating systems within the Microsoft technology stack.
Experience in configuring, deploying, and maintaining server infrastructure.
Strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and routing.
Knowledge of security best practices, firewall management, intrusion detection, and vulnerability assessment.
Proficiency in scripting languages like Bash, Power Shell, or Python to automate routine tasks and processes.
Experience with virtualization technologies like VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS and the ability to manage cloud-based infrastructure.
Skills in configuring and managing storage solutions, including SAN and NAS.
Implementing and maintaining backup strategies, as well as developing and testing recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
Setting up monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix) and analysing logs for troubleshooting and performance optimisation.
Understanding of database systems like My SQL, Postgre SQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.
