Full time, three-year, fixed term opportunityBased at Curtin's Bentley CampusAbout the roleThe Faculty of Science and Engineering at Curtin University is excited to be expanding the Girls Engineering Tomorrow program, and we are looking for a dedicated and passionate STEM Outreach Officer to join our team and help inspire the next generation of STEM superstars!
This role is all about connecting and empowering girls and non-binary students in their early high school years and inspiring them to explore study and career pathways in STEM disciplines, particularly engineering.You will play an important part in helping students see the exciting possibilities that lie ahead by creating a welcoming and supportive environment for them to learn in, working alongside schools and teachers to provide resources and deliver fun, educational and engaging workshops.
Your work will help spark curiosity, develop essential skills such as problem-solving and creativity, build confidence in students and promote gender equity in STEM education and career pathways.If you're excited about the opportunity to make a real impact on students' lives and help them discover the possibilities of STEM, this could be the perfect role for you!Your responsibilities will include:Assisting with the delivery of the Girls Engineering Tomorrow program, including preparing resources and facilitating STEM workshops focused on creativity and problem-solving.Mentoring students, advocating for gender equity in STEM and inspiring future STEM superstars.Building relationships with schools and educators to ensure the program meets students' needs.Promoting STEM pathways for school-aged students, particularly girls, through outreach initiatives.Managing communications, monitoring program effectiveness, and collaborating with the STEM Outreach Coordinator on various projects.What we are looking forEssential CriteriaCompletion of a relevant STEM or education related diploma qualification with relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.A genuine passion for STEM and a desire to inspire the next generation of STEM students.A strong commitment to gender equity and creating equal opportunities for all students in STEM.Experience (or ability) to engage high school students in hands-on learning, with skills in workshop development, event management, and creating an inclusive learning environment.Strong communication skills, including the ability to present effectively to diverse audiences and write clear, concise documentation, especially on STEM topics.Highly organised with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.Proven ability to work collaboratively in teams and manage school students during activities, adapting your approach to meet them where they are.DesirableProven experience and knowledge of school of tertiary education environment.Previous experience in delivering STEM engagement activities with female students.Role requirementsAs this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction.This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check.Occasional travel to regional and rural areas to deliver workshops (transportation will be provided).Ability to work outside of regular office hours as needed to support workshops and special events.Your new teamThe STEM Outreach team at Curtin University is dedicated to inspiring and engaging future scientists, engineers, and educators.
