Our team of educators and researchers lead internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas.
The Stem Cell Biologist applies and refines their expertise in pluripotent stem cell biology towards generation of neural cell subtypes for applications in cell therapies and disease modelling of neurological conditions.
The outputs will drive development of new therapies for diseases including Parkinson's disease, stroke and motor neuron disease and will contribute to the university's standing as a national leader in pre-clinical neuroscience.
The candidate will engage in research both independently as well as part of a research team.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
Apply established expertise in 2D and 3D directed neural differentiation of human pluripotent stem cell lines as well as refinement of existing differentiation protocols and development of new ones.
Maintain and organise stocks of human pluripotent stem cell lines with responsible oversight, including quality assurance measures.
Train technical staff and students in cell culture and other relevant laboratory techniques.
Generate and formally prepare data for publication, both independently and by working with laboratory team members.
Conduct original research independently and as part of a team, focusing on publication, conference presentations, and developing skills in securing research funding.
Develop and grow a research profile, including publication of peer-reviewed journal articles, conference and/or seminar papers.
Develop research collaborations and engage in translational research that results in knowledge gains and/or technology development, with potential for impact through commercialisation, improved policy or practice, or enhancement to industry, the profession or community.
Contribute to applications for competitive research grants or funding to deliver research impact.
Maintain quality, standards and excellence in research activities and output.
Provide informal mentoring and guidance to lower-level academics and supervise postgraduate research students or projects where appropriate.
Contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled.
Understand and contribute to furthering the university and faculty/school strategic agenda.
Undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.
About you PhD in a relevant area.
Demonstrated expertise conducting independent research in pluripotent stem cell biology with neural focus.
Proven ability, commitment and passion for engaging in research in areas including pluripotent stem cell biology, neuroscience and disease modelling.
Team-oriented and capable of managing and/or participating in multiple projects as both a leader or collaborator.
