The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. We're focused on supporting Victorians to be as healthy as they can; whether through alerting them to seasonal risks like thunderstorm asthma, notifying them of contact with communicable diseases, safeguarding their drinking water, developing the best health, wellbeing and care facilities in the world, being at the forefront of mental health and wellbeing treatment or accelerating medical research. It's all part of the way we partner with the community to help every individual lead a healthy life.
About the role: Are you:
An effective, responsive and influential leader who works collaboratively with diverse stakeholders (from government to senior clinicians) to design system-wide reform, policy and frameworks built upon a deep understanding of the Victorian health system? Able to lead and oversee the development and implementation of tangible system-wide reform, including the delivery of digital platforms? Able to manage and influence health services to drive planned care system performance and ensure accountability against key metrics (including flow on funding implications) including understanding the data and data sets that underpin them (such as ESIS/VAED/VINAH) to develop system and local interventions? How you'll make a difference: The Executive Director, Planned Care Recovery and Reform leads a broad program of work to ensure timely and equitable access to planned care for all Victorians and is responsible for several key components of planned care delivery at the statewide level (from reform to governance and accountability), which includes outlining the strategic direction for planned care in Victoria.
A key responsibility of this role will be to ensure health services deliver against their planned surgery targets set out in their Statement of Priorities and hold them accountable for annual performance through locally designed accountability and customised improvement approaches. A major component of this will be building, maintaining and influencing strong working relationships with senior health service stakeholders as well as engaging with the sector through regular communications and forums.
The role will also need to ensure the system is providing timely access to endoscopy through system accountability mechanisms, policy uplift as well as applying relevant improvement and reform opportunities to address inequity.
Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate: The ability to lead a large workforce and build a positive workplace dynamic to ensure strong morale and engagement and maximise staff wellbeing. Additionally, lead the facilitation of the workforce's professional development and learning, and seek opportunities to share knowledge across the program. Maintain good awareness of the current political and government context to provide strategic, evidence-based advice and act as an authoritative source of information for the Deputy Secretary, Secretary, Minister and other senior stakeholders, to further develop and implement the department's objectives. Provide strategic direction to champion a culture of innovation and continuous improvement to develop and implement meaningful and tangible reform for consumers of the Victorian planned care system. What we offer: The opportunity to perform meaningful work, making direct contributions toward enabling Victorians to be the healthiest people in the world.
