Victoria Police Forensic Services Department VPS-2 Administration Officer - Fixed term role available to 18/09/25 About the Unit: Units within the Fingerprint Sciences Group (FSG) comprise VPS staff, Forensic Officers, and Police members undertaking activities associated with the provision of a fingerprint service to the State of Victoria. This includes scene and laboratory-based recovery of fingerprints, comparison of unknown and known fingerprints, and management of known fingerprints in accordance with Section 464 of the Victorian Crimes Act 1958 .
About the Role: This role contributes towards ensuring the quality of fingerprint service delivery by providing support in relation to fingerprint administrative duties and maintenance of 10-print fingerprint records.
As the successful applicant, some of your duties will include: Accurate data entry of casework and person details for the purpose of communicating results and recording 10-print fingerprint sets. Provide general administrative assistance, respond to customer enquiries, maintain office records, and compile reports. Update and maintain record systems including the Law Enforcement Assistance Program (LEAP) and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) for management of 10-print fingerprint records. Liaise with police informants and other internal and external groups to provide information and assist with workflows. Ensure the integrity of fingerprint-related information on the LEAP and NAFIS databases. Compile documentation required to provide court statements of fingerprint evidence and attend in a timely manner to correspondence from informants and supervisors regarding court matters. Maintain records, filing systems, and distribute documentation relevant to fingerprint casework. Skills & Experience: As the successful applicant, you will have:
Demonstrated experience in performing a range of administrative support duties including the preparation of reports and correspondence, minute taking, and basic research activities. Appropriate word processing and computer skills including the ability to develop and maintain appropriate work recording and monitoring systems. Proven organisational and problem-solving skills and the ability to undertake and complete competing activities within acceptable timeframes. Well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior police members, external agencies, and other personnel. Demonstrated ability to function within a team environment and deal appropriately with sensitive and highly confidential information and issues. An understanding of the customer service requirements of the position and a demonstrated record of strong commitment and achievement in meeting customer needs. A proven record of ethical behaviour and a commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct and the Organisational Values. Requirements and Relevant Information: Fixed Term VPS-2 Administration Officer position available to 18/09/2025 Position is located at 31 Forensic Drive, Macleod, Victoria The successful candidate will be required to provide a DNA sample (buccal swab) for use in laboratory quality control procedures (elimination purposes only) The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
