State Development and Infrastructure Strategic Policy and Research; Strategic Policy and Insights; Strategy Insights and Advisory; Brisbane City The Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning is seeking a skilled and agile Principal Policy Officer to join its Strategic Policy and Research team.
This temporary position (with possible extension) represents an opportunity to engage with stakeholders in the portfolio and across government to develop and inform whole of agency policy and undertake future-focused research to support departmental priorities.
You will bring policy and ideally legislative expertise and use this experience to support staff across the agency on policy matters and legislative processes.
This role contributes to a dynamic, central policy area that plays a pivotal role in the department working to drive real and improved outcomes for Queenslanders.

The Principal Policy Officer position is an opportunity to join the Strategic Performance and Research (SPR) team in the Strategic Policy and Insights division of the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning.
With a focus on collaboration and engagement across the department and other government agencies, SPR drives the delivery of policy and legislative objectives that are a strategic priority for the department and portfolio.
Your opportunities will include: Engaging with stakeholders within the portfolio and across government to develop and inform whole of agency policy development and undertake future-focused research to support departmental priorities.
Using your knowledge and skills to provide specialist policy and legislative advice and services at both the group and broader department level focusing on technical research, business intelligence and performance management.
Supporting a high-performance culture that achieves our strategic priorities, using intelligence, data and analytics to inform interventions and innovations to achieve our strategic outcomes.
Fostering strong working relationships across governments and the private sector and working with other teams to develop insights to support the department's policy and program initiatives.
About the Role: As a Principal Policy Officer, SPR, your responsibilities will include: Developing and maintaining strategic networks and consultative relationships within the department, across Queensland Government, other jurisdictions and with key industry stakeholders to consult, negotiate and support the delivery of the department's strategic agenda.
Undertaking research, analysis and scanning tasks related to a variety of policy areas, to inform the department's broader work program and development of policy recommendations.
Providing a legislative support function to assist staff across the department including on issues regarding Cabinet and Parliamentary processes, submissions, legislation and subordinate legislation.
Leading aspects of the team's strategic policy and legislative coordination role, including to provide considered policy and intergovernmental advice, and secretariat support.
Applying high-level knowledge of strategic issues, stakeholder perspectives, and departmental priorities to develop consultative, timely and well-researched briefings, submissions, reports, and correspondence, including to the Minister, Director-General, Executive Leadership Team and senior departmental leaders.
Leading the effective delivery of policy, research and/or engagement projects and programs.
Exercising judgement to effectively manage competing priorities while working collaboratively with colleagues, or individually, to deliver workloads on time and to customers' expectations.
Contributing to a positive and effective team culture by participating in work area goal setting, service improvement and other team/divisional activities.
Representing the department at internal and external forums and committees, as required.
Performing daily tasks as required by the Director, Manager and team members, at times within tight timeframes.
