About the role Our Environment team provides strategic and practical solutions to clients with environmental management challenges. We are currently seeking a Senior Marine / Aquatic Ecologist with marine or freshwater experience to join our team. You will benefit from being part of a national Ecology and Environmental Services team that has industry experts across Marine, Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecology and a range of exciting projects across the Asia Pacific Region.
This role will ideally be based in our Sydney office (St Leonards), however Newcastle or Wollongong based candidates will also be considered. Day to day tasks would involve: Displaying expertise in the fields of marine and freshwater ecology including experimental design and statistical analysesPlanning, leading and implementing estuarine, marine and /or freshwater field studiesManaging your own small to medium sized projects from end-to-endUndertaking desktop researchDemonstrating a solid understanding of environmental legislation and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current industry standards, practices, environmental legislation and approvals processesEnsuring work output is of a technically high standard and activities are commercially viableTechnical report writing utilising conventional standards expected for scientific reportingActing as a professional mentor to junior staff and assisting with their professional developmentAssisting with the preparation and processing of tender documentationTo be successful for this role you'll need: Tertiary qualifications in Marine or Freshwater Ecology / Biology, Marine Science or equivalentQualifications and experience in scientific diving (or equivalent) and Coxswains certification desirableStrong knowledge and understanding of experimental design and statistical analysisWell-developed fieldwork skills including leading field teams with specific knowledge in intertidal, subtidal and offshore field survey methodsExperience with the full tender process including drafting proposals and responding to RFQ'sKnowledge of freshwater field survey methods such as electrofishing, AUSRIVAS protocols and macroinvertebrate identification desirableGIS and habitat mapping skills using ArcGIS or similar highly desirableKnowledge of NSW and Federal planning and environment legislationStrong commercial acumen to financially manage projects and seek out new opportunitiesFlexibility to travel occasionallyPhysical Requirements Position includes both office and field work and the applicant must be physically able to stand and work in the field including in remote areas for extended periods of time.
