The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of General Surgery is seeking interest from suitably qualified General Surgeons with sub-speciality experience in Endocrine Surgery for a Staff Specialist (General Surgery) vacancy.
Who are we? The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.
The Role This role is intended to improve the delivery of surgical services to patients. The clinical work in this role will involve outpatient and elective services in the relevant specialty and sub-specialty fields, as well as managing acute / emergency cases as part of the Department of General Surgery's Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU).
The successful candidate would also be involved in training of registrars, junior medical officers, and students. There are also opportunities to be involved with other teaching, research, and administrative activities.
In the role Staff Specialist – General Surgery you will:
Provide quality specialist and sub-specialty services in inpatient and outpatient settings to public and private patients of the Royal Hobart Hospital. Be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Be actively involved in research. Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $210,000 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $288,000 with further salary increments available.
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 - $301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $27,535 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year). Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,000 pro rata per annum. On call allowance % of Base Salary. All other allowances as per current Award. And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid. Other Benefits: You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible. You will also have access to accommodation and relocation costs. Details of Appointment Permanent, part-time day work (with on-call), hours to be negotiated, commencing 20 August 2024.
