The Department of General Medicine is staffed with a diverse team of specialists, as well as Advanced Trainees in General and Acute Care Medicine and Basic Physician Trainees. A variety of workplace settings are available, including: acute medicine; inpatient medical wards; outpatient clinics; stroke; and intermediate care. The hospital is a 440 bed public hospital providing acute care services for residents of the North and North West regions of Tasmania. It is a teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania.General Medicine is the main inpatient medical unit at the Hospital.The General Medicine Units are based on one ward in a brand new block. Each team is supported by Allied Health specialists.The department has 12 Staff Specialists, and teams are organised into 4 Medical Units; each unit has its own Basic Training Registrar and Intern, and 2-3 consultants. There are now 9 Advanced Training positions in General Medicine, rotating through General Medicine and other sub-specialty positions such as stroke, respiratory medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology and nephrology.This position is accredited by the RACP for 12 months of BPT training and is supported by a team of 6.4 FTE consultant , 1 BPT ward registrar and intern.Requirements: FRACP .
