The Emergency Department has direct access to all medical and surgical specialities; and has approximately 75,000 presentations per year. The Department has more than 250 staff, consisting of medical, nursing, allied health, clerical, aides, and orderlies.
The Emergency Department is staffed by specialists, registrars, nurses, and clinical support staff who work together as a dynamic team with strong focus on collegiality.
Responsibilities Provide specialist emergency care to public and private patients attending the Emergency Department (ED) at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH). Be involved in research and quality improvement activities, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at RHH. Provide specialist advice to inpatient units as required. Salary and Appointment Details A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3. In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle (subject to working full-time hours) OR allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,389 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly. Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 pro rata per annum. On call allowance % of Base Salary. Details of Appointment Fixed term appointments, both full-time and part-time day work (with on-call) available, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for 2 years.

Minimum Requirements Holds specialist registration. Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) on the specialist pathway. Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) with a recognised overseas specialist qualification and sufficient experience in the speciality. The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment. The following checks are to be conducted:
