Selection Criteria Demonstrated ability to administer relevant language/speech assessments and develop goals for individual students. Demonstrated ability to design, deliver and evaluate high quality speech therapy and communication programs across all areas of the school for students who have moderate to severe language delays and concerns. Demonstrated high level organisational (timetabling and note taking), communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to provide advice to teachers, Education Support staff and parents on program delivery and follow up. Demonstrated interest and willingness to work collaboratively with Universities to support the placement of speech pathology students within the school environment. Demonstrated commitment to engage in ongoing professional learning, both within the school and externally as well as willingness to participate and contribute to networking with other professionals. Demonstrated ability to work independently, utilise effective time management strategies, establish priorities and meet deadlines. Role Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.
Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.
Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Responsibilities Services provided by Speech Pathologists may include (but are not limited to):
To provide high quality advice and support to whole school community in the development of programs, procedures and policies, with a focus on student's language and communication skills. To develop, deliver and evaluate speech pathology services for students with communication difficulties and disabilities. To demonstrate and model high quality teaching and learning strategies, which will assist teachers to facilitate a high level of success with student in their classrooms. To conduct speech and language assessments (e.g., speech, oral language, phonological awareness, voice, fluency, pragmatics etc) and provide relevant reports to key stakeholders. To provide speech therapy intervention to individual students and groups of students. To provide professional development for the school community with a focus on primary prevention strategies and skills in the identification, monitoring, support of students. To provide support and advice for disability inclusion profiles. To promote awareness of issues relating to language and communication disorders within the school community. To establish and maintain links with Student Support Services, relevant community support agencies and school networks, with a view to optimise services available for students that focus on primary prevention, early intervention, and continuity of support. To connect students with outside agencies in cases which are beyond the expertise or resources of the Student Welfare team. Carry out other duties as required by the Principal Team.
