About the Role As the Specialist Approvals and Tenements, this role will give you exposure to supporting a broad portfolio of resource assets associated with our Copper South Australian operations.
You will support the day-to-day planning, coordination and delivery of regulatory approvals and tenement management activities, working with internal and external stakeholders to secure land access, approvals and tenements in accordance with legal requirements.
In this role you will be exposed to mining, planning, development, infrastructure and environmental legislation. You will also gain exposure to external stakeholder engagement exercises, including with landowners, communities, Local, State and Federal Governments on behalf of BHP Copper South Australia.
The role will be Adelaide based working a 5/2 roster with occasional travel to site (as may be required). The role is a permanent opportunity within the Land, Access & Approvals Team. In this role you will: Be responsible for planning, securing and maintaining approvals and tenements to support operations and enable growth within our jurisdictions. Oversee arrangements associated with approvals and tenements within our Copper South Australian operations and acquisitions. Be a key interface between internal BHP groups (Projects, Planning Technical and Environment, Heritage, Legal, Indigenous Engagement, Corporate Affairs and Government Relations) and with Federal and State Government agencies responsible for mining and development approvals. Support and implement BHP's internal framework for approvals and tenement management, to support the sustainability of long-term approvals and tenement security. Engage with studies and resource engineering teams, planning and execution groups to guide through study and infrastructure project obligations on approvals activities. Develop effective communication processes to maintain and motivate employees, consultants and contractors ensuring they work to achieve the best interest of Copper South Australia and are aware of and strive for the goals of the team. Build relationships with other departments and employees to ensure problems are addressed and resolved effectively in a timely manner. About You Proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm's way. Adhere to and demonstrate BHP Charter Values. Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, or equivalent. Demonstrated experience in securing mining and development approvals, including a thorough understanding of the Mining Act, Planning, Infrastructure and Development Act and environmental legislation within South Australia. Demonstrated experience in tenement management practices. Previous exposure to a similar approvals role in-house or as a consultant. Organisational skills for managing deliverables and multiple tasks simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously. Communication skills that allow you to feel at ease in influencing up and working with a diverse range of senior internal and external stakeholders.
