Solution Design Engineer, Operations EngineeringSolutions Design Engineering is part of the Global Engineering Services (GES) team. The Solutions team is made of the Concept Engineering (CANES – Concept Applications 'N Estimating Solutions) and Firm Engineering (FIRE - Firm Engineering for initiatives, Retrofits and Emerging Countries). We are responsible for contracting potential material handling equipment (MHE) retrofit projects with MHE vendors and providing engineered solutions to Operations Engineering for installation. We work closely with many internal and external teams to develop MHE solutions, which allows us to deliver a variety of solutions. Our internal stakeholders include: Operations, WW Engineering, Finance, Safety, ACES, RME, and Operations Engineering. You have to be based in Australia and willingness to travel up to 30% as required by the role.Key job responsibilitiesDevelop the concept design while understanding and translating business requirements.Work with TPM partners to determine business need by dates and deliverables.Own the RFC and RFP process to determine vendor scope and ensure application of Amazon standards and spec.Review vendor proposals and make selection based on various factors.A day in the lifeDesigning:Design and develop engineering solutions for complex material handling and storage challenges considering human/equipment interactions for the NA and Emerging Countries.Lead and coordinate concept and firm design development efforts for optimal solutions for the NA and Emerging Countries fulfillment network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, associate experience, operational considerations and site layout.Work with various teams (PMO, Simulation, ACES, Operations, Finance, Ops Eng) to identify network problem statements and execute pilot projects that can be made network standards.Lead the firm engineering process for various design reviews. Ensure the solution being developed meets or exceeds all Amazon standards.Writing or reviewing design / functional specifications, design verification plans and test procedures for MHE equipment.Driving projects to closure; ensuring that systems deployed, maintained, and meet regulatory requirements for certification.Project Management:Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.Work with procurement and PMO to obtain initial ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) pricing. Use this information along with other cost information to develop a CAR (Capital Asset Request) form. Ensure the funding for projects is effectively spent while ensuring frugality is observed.Must remain as the primary POC for all design, schedule, cost and safety related questions throughout the life cycle of the project. Work effectively with operations and Ops Eng to address any schedule changes during execution.Seek diverse perspectives, listen to feedback, and are willing to change direction if it creates a better outcome. Harmonize discordant views and lead the resolution of contentious issues (build consensus).Minimum Requirements:Based in AustraliaBachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical, Mathematics, Physics, other STEM degree or related field experience)4+ years experience in designing, engineering, operations, or a similar role involving material handling and storage systems.Ability to understand and validate design changes requested or proposed.Ability to understand full system development life cycle, working within broadly defined parameters, including test plan execution and solution quality needs.Design-in-Safety experienceExperience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing. Similar design experience in other industries can be considered.Must be able to travel up to 30%Preferred Qualifications:Masters Degree in Engineering, Design, or related fieldDeep experience in a design related roleAble to communicate ideas effectively to achieve the right outcome for team and customer.Previous experience in a similar role within a large-scale fulfillment or distribution network.Acknowledgement of country:In the spirit of reconciliation Amazon acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.IDE statement:Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
