Solicitor - Legal Officer I - III - Open Government, Information and PrivacyNSW Department of Communities and Justice – Parramatta NSW
Location – Parramatta (Flexible working arrangements available)
Employment type – Temporary – Until June 2026 - Full-Time (35 Hours per week)
Salary – Legal Officer I - III, $74,050 - $125,521 plus superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role

The team is responsible for ensuring DCJ's compliance with the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) and the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act (PPIP Act) as well as ensuring compliance with subpoenas and statutory orders relating to the provision of information. We offer flexible work practices in a very supportive environment. On the job training will be provided.
What you'll do
Process complex applications under GIPA Act, PPIP Act and HRIP Act as well as facilitating access to information under the National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse (Commonwealth Powers) Act 2018, including open data and subpoena work and other statutory applications in relation to the provision of information.Provide professional legal and/or litigation advice, support and research in the relevant area/s of law to contribute to efficient and effective legal services.Represent DCJ at the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal and supervise a small number of staff.In addition to meeting the essential requirements, the successful candidate must demonstrate strong capabilities in:
A team player who is great with people and thrives in a fast-paced environment.Highly organised and able to plan and manage workloads according to strict timeframes.Manage a number of sensitive and complex applications concurrently.Excellent written and verbal communication skills and stakeholder management.What we're looking for
Legal Qualifications, with a practicing certificate, knowledge, and experience in the relevant area of law.National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014.Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.Ability to undertake travel for regional court and other commitments.Fingerprint checks are required to be conducted at a Police Station prior to commencing with DCJ.What We Offer
