THE ROLE The Solicitor in the Legislation team, along with other team members, will work closely with the Managing Principal Solicitor and Principal Solicitor in providing legislation services to the department.
In this role, you will be required, with minimal supervision, to assist in providing sound legal and legislative advice and services on a broad range of matters across the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (the department).
The Legislation team is responsible for supporting the policy development and providing the relevant legislation services to deliver the department's legislation program.
Working closely with policy areas within the department and other teams in the Legal Services branch, the Legislation team will deliver legal policy reform through the development of policy, legislation, and subordinate legislation related to the department's portfolio areas.
Legal issues will mainly be focused on the department's portfolios and legislation projects including the development of Bills, regulations, and other statutory instruments.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE Provide advice on complex legal, legislation and policy issues and provide high-level briefings and correspondence.
Collaborate with departmental colleagues to deliver high-quality client-focused legal and legislation services in relation to complex and sensitive matters.
Prepare briefs and instruct counsel and contracted solicitors on complex and sensitive matters.
What you'll be responsible for Legal Research: Conduct legal and factual research to collate findings, and inform business and legal decisions.
Legal Operations: Review laws and standards to implement, update and maintain the organization's policies, standards, and procedures.
Legal Advisory and Risk Management: Advise on the whole spectrum of legal matters that apply to the business and its offerings.
