NSW Crown Solicitor's Office (CSO) is seeking solicitors to join our Inquiries and Criminal Law Division.

The

Regulatory and Environment

practice group conducts summary prosecutions for government departments and agencies for environmental and other regulatory criminal offences, including under fisheries, water, electoral, childcare and transport regulatory control laws. The practice group also advises regulators on legal issues including enforcement options, criminal law and procedure, evidence, and discrete questions of statutory construction.

The

Public Safety and Justice

practice group provides advice and conducts litigation in matters including high-risk offender post-sentence detention/supervision applications, reviews of conviction and sentence, applications for the exercise of the royal prerogative of mercy, advice and litigation in relation to contempt of court, acting for police in applications regarding domestic violence, and other advice work related to such matters.

The

Terrorism & High Risk Offenders

practice group advises and represents the State of NSW and its agencies in a range of terrorism-related matters, including conducting large and complex proceedings for post-sentence detention or supervision orders, and parole proceedings for adult and juvenile terrorist-related offenders. The practice group also includes advice and representation in proceedings before the State Parole Authority, the Serious Offenders Review Council, the Mental Health Review Tribunal; as well as applications in the Supreme Court regarding extensions of the status of forensic patients.

Inquiries

practice group specialises in assisting and advising in coronial inquests, representing NSW government agencies before royal commissions and other inquiries, assisting at other ad hoc forms of inquiry and providing advice to agencies concerning investigatory powers.

About the role

As a Solicitor (Legal Officer Grade I -III), you will conduct assigned legal matters, including providing advice and handling litigation, and assist senior solicitors with the conduct of their legal matters. Solicitors help deliver top-notch legal services to clients in a way that efficiently meets business goals while focusing on client needs.

Experienced solicitors with civil law backgrounds, with strong litigation and legal analysis skills, and the ability to work and adapt in a fast-paced environment are encouraged to apply. You should be able to manage competing demands, support senior solicitors, work effectively in a team, and maintain professional competence and resilience while staying updated on developments in our specialised area of law.

Essential requirements

Completion of a law degree from an accredited law school or completion of the Legal Practitioners Admission Board's Diploma in Law Course.

Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW.
