Gorval Lynch is an established litigation and dispute resolution firm that is managed by 2 partners who oversee 2 main practice areas:
Employment and Commercial
Family Law
The current team is comprised of 4 lawyers and 2 partners. The firm is looking to expand the litigation team to 5-6 lawyers in 2024 in addition to paralegal support.
The Team
Our Employment and Litigation group is advocacy and dispute resolution focused. The work often involves contentious disputes and the bulk of the matters involve proceedings in the FCFCOA, FWC, AHRC and other discrimination tribunals and courts.
The firm represents employees facing employment issues across Australia and across various industries. Your typical matter list would include discrimination cases, unlawful terminations, alleged breaches of Restraint of Trade/Restrictive covenants, significant underpayments/breaches of Modern Awards/NES, and other employment-related disputes.
The Role
This role will provide you with experience across all facets of employment litigation. You will gain significant experience in advocacy, a deep understanding of employment law, and the opportunity to work alongside experienced counsel. As our firm represents clients Australia-wide and across all industries, you will experience a variety of work and clientele.
At Gorval Lynch, the bulk of our work is dispute resolution, and as such, you will gain considerable experience in advocacy, improve your negotiation skills, learn and develop winning litigation strategies, and excel in your drafting skills. You will have full support, training, and oversight from the managing partners and senior lawyers but will be given the opportunity to work autonomously on matters and have direct contact with clients and other representatives. You will also see your matters through from beginning to end.
This role would suit candidates who may have had previous limited exposure to either employment law or litigation but are now looking to develop their own skills and expertise in dispute resolution and take on the challenge of stepping up and working autonomously on their own files.
To succeed in this role, you:
Would have a genuine interest in Employment dispute resolution, negotiations, and/or advocacy;
Seek to improve and develop your own skills by taking ownership of matters and learning to manage your own files;
Be outcome and results-driven.
The Interview and Selection Process
Successful shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in a phone/Zoom interview with the partner. A second in-person interview will take place with one of the partners. At the interview, candidates will be provided with a short form problem question relating to a typical employment dispute, and candidates would present their advice/strategy.
What we offer
Our firm is shaped by our employees, and we are looking for the right fit and candidate. At Gorval Lynch, you will be given the opportunity to work on interesting matters with a collegiate and supportive team.
We have a clear focus on the core areas of work that we do, and we pride ourselves on the success of our team. You will receive training in all aspects of employment law and develop your litigation skills.
Importantly, you will have the opportunity to grow and progress your career within the firm. As part of our autonomous and flexible culture, we offer flexibility for our employees and have a work-from-home policy.
