An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Paediatrician to join the team here at South East Regional Hospital in the Bega Valley, part of the Southern NSW - Coastal Network.
About the opportunity:
South East Regional Hospital is a Level 4 Paediatric Unit with 6 paediatric inpatient beds plus 4 short stay beds. The service is currently the receiving hospital for children requiring admission across the Coastal Network, supporting a well-staffed emergency department with approximately 4000 paediatric emergency presentations annually. The service provides telehealth consultation and support to emergency departments at other hospitals across the Coastal Network, which see a further 4000 paediatric emergency presentations annually. The service has a 2 bed special care nursery supporting a Level 3 maternity service that delivers approximately 250 babies per annum. The service also provides specialist telehealth neonatal support to Eurobodalla nursery and has a varied outpatient paediatric caseload comprising challenging and interesting paediatric medicine. In a true networked model, the service provides regular specialist outpatient clinics both locally at Bega and through outreach clinics in Eurobodalla and Monaro regions.
The service is a training site for medical students in paediatric medicine from Australian National University and is accredited with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians for Advanced Training in Paediatrics & Child Health. Upskilling of staff across the Coastal Network in the area of Paediatric and Neonatal medicine is a strategic focus. There is a strong emphasis on teaching with the newly built Education and Simulation Centre and regular outreach teaching programs for General Practitioners and Nursing/Midwifery at hospitals and primary care centres across our coastal network.
Paediatric medicine and unmet needs for children in our region has been identified as a priority area for this Southern NSW Local Health District in our strategic plan. This position affords an opportunity to join a team of committed paediatricians in an exciting service development opportunity.
