Care to Thrive Thanks to new funding, Life Without Barriers is expanding our services to better support the needs of young people across Burnie and Hobart. Care 2 Thrive aims to offer targeted care and support to young people for them to thrive in a family-based care environment. This funding enables us to enhance our programs and provide additional resources to our family-based care teams. With this support, we are committed to delivering the highest quality care and making a lasting impact on the lives of those we support.
About the Role Guided by the six principles of the CARE model, this Senior Youth Worker – Family Based Care position provides direct care and mentoring of children and/or young people with a wide range of responsibility for specialised program activities, child/young person development and supervision, and promotion of a safe environment. Activities may take place in community settings or in the child or young person's home.
Because of the life experiences and trauma histories that the children and young people in our care bring, this role must not only provide adequate safety and supervision but must be actively engaged in building positive relationships and solving problems as part of a team. LWB people in this role must offer energy, safety and commitment in their work with our children and young people through genuine, caring and sensitive engagement.

We are looking for two dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Permanent Full-Time Senior Youth Workers, with one position available in Burnie and the other position available in Hobart.
Key Responsibilities Form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people by building trust through visible interest and active engagementAct as an appropriate adult role model, seeking to engage children and young people in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and self-worthSupport the involvement of family and where applicable, facilitate family visits/connection and the promotion of positive family relationships with children and young people, to suit individual needsPromote and encourage positive relationships with peers and other persons significant to the child/young personAssist the child/young person to participate as full as possible in making decisions about the activities undertakenIt may be required to work outside the normal span of hours (weekend work).The responsibilities of the positionmay require travelling to various work locationsProvide care, supervision and transport to children and young peopleSkills & Experience Either hold and maintain; or be actively working towards a Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential Care) or a recognised relevant qualification. Senior First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification or willing to obtainDemonstrated experience supporting Children, Young People and Families.Demonstrated ability to work within a case management/therapeutic framework.Demonstrated experience in engaging with key stakeholder'sDemonstrated ability to form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people by building trust through visible interest and active engagement.Additional Support Life Without Barriers offers a dedicated After-Hours Service (AHS) for all CYF programs, a unique feature that sets us apart from our competitors. AHS ensures efficient responses to after-hours events that cannot wait until the next business day, relieving our front-line staff from on-call duties and significantly improving their work-life balance.
This service handles critical, emergent, and time-sensitive situations, providing support, advice, escalation assistance, and guidance. This ensures that those supported by, employed by, or collaborating with Life Without Barriers can have trust and confidence in our after-hours service delivery.
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role). At Life Without Barriers, we prioritise a strong evidence-based culture and offer extensive professional development opportunities.
