Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart, and Launceston. This position is based at Risdon Vale in the TPS People and Culture Unit, located in the Training Building. In this role, you may be required to attend the Hobart city office or other sites for full or part days. Please discuss what this might look like for you with the contact officer.The Rison Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk). The Training Building has an attached outdoor area where we can enjoy our lunchtimes... weather permitting! We are a short drive to local shops and services, however there is no need to worry about parking when you return as there is plenty (and did we mention it's free!?).The TPS People and Culture Unit encompasses recruiting, training, rosters, absence management and general human resources support for the TPS. We are a small team and work closely and collaboratively with the Department of Justice's central human resources team, and other outputs.This is one of a number of new positions in the Training team, with services being expanded from corrections only to encompass all TPS staff. Our workforce includes corrections, allied health, case management, administration and management staff. We also provide training to a range of volunteers, contractors and staff from other government departments.The Manager, Learning and Development will develop and drive the TPS Learning and Development strategy, and lead the Training team in undertaking research, design, development and delivery of training and assessment. Our training requirements vary but can include nationally recognised qualifications, in-house, group, individual, online, face-to-face, etc. We have a plan for the Training team, and we know what skills we need to get started – but we don't have your expertise to guide the way forward. You will be at the centre of shaping and implementing the strategy that will support all TPS staff for years to come.Period of AppointmentPermanent from as soon as possible.This role will lead a small team encompassing team members with expertise in learning and development design and delivery, corrections and administration. In addition to driving the development and implementation of the TPS Learning and Development strategy, this position will provide high level, expertise and authoritative advice to senior management, resolve complex and sensitive matters within the scope of the role, and work collaboratively with Department HR staff.*Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar permanent, fixed-term, full time, part time and/or casual vacancies.Hours per fortnight73.50 hours per fortnight- flexible options available.This is day work position working weekdays.
