Who we are The Exports Division provides export inspection and certification services and develops strategies to gain, improve or maintain market access for a wide range of food, inedible products of animal origin, live animal and reproductive materials. It provides residue monitoring services to Australian primary industries and administers 40 tariff rate quotas for products to the European Union, United States of America, Indonesia and Japan. The division also includes the Codex contact point which coordinates technical input from both industry and government to develop Australia's position on international food standards. The division supports the imported food inspection scheme and provides policy advice on imported food.
The Meat Exports Branch works in close partnership with internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain national export inspection and certification services for meat (red meat, poultry, pork, sheep and game meat). This includes the development of legislation, operational policy and guidelines, instructional material, technical training development and delivery and engagement with industry and government stakeholders. The central office team manages the export certification system and provides operational support to the department's technical service delivery streams who are responsible for inspection, verification and certification of meat and meat products across Australia.
The diverse functions of the Veterinary Technical Management team provide support to the role of the National Veterinary Technical Manager for the maintenance of good regulatory hygiene and providing assurances for export meat certification.
The Job Duties of the positions include but are not limited to:
supporting the role of the National Veterinary Technical Manager.
undertaking research and analysis to inform policy and program development to support existing regulatory functions and to address emerging issues.
preparing high level briefing materials, correspondence, reports, and other products for the Minister, departmental executives, and for tabling at various forums.
preparing and reviewing industry reports, policy, and stakeholder meeting papers.
maintaining a suite of instructional material, policy and guideline documents and engaging in consultation activities with industry and relevant subject matter experts.
providing technical review of operational training and assessment material.
preparing and presenting training material to new and existing departmental employees on a regular basis in person or via Microsoft Teams.
providing technical updates and presenting relevant technical material and educational pieces to departmental groups, industry, government groups and consumer organisations.
promoting effective and coordinated engagement between the Meat Exports Branch and other branches/divisions.
engaging and maintaining relationships with a range of external stakeholders, including processors and peak industry bodies, as well as other state/territory and Commonwealth agencies, international trading partners, and consumer groups.
undertaking secretariat duties for various committees/forums.
providing expert technical and professional advice relating to export operations and supporting decisions to fulfil the department's regulatory role.
providing technical advice to SES officers in varying formats; and for non-technical audiences.

Mandatory Qualifications To be considered for these positions you must hold both of the following:
Have a degree in Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine and Surgery from an Australian University or equivalent veterinary qualification recognised/registerable in Australia.
You must be fully registered, or eligible for full registration, with the relevant Australian state/territory veterinary board and you must maintain this registration whilst employed by the department.
You must hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers' licence.
