About the Role The Senior Transport Planner will coordinate key activities for the Department's Regional Transport Strategy team, shaping the future regional transport system to foster a prosperous, connected, and liveable Victoria. The role involves proactively partnering across the transport portfolio and with other government departments, agencies, Regional Partnerships, and local government stakeholders to advance integrated land use and transport planning in Regional Victoria. This position ensures the transport system aligns with the Transport Integration Act, focusing on user-centred, multimodal transport planning conducted in an integrated, place-based manner across all modes.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities Partner with regional Industries, portfolio agencies, government agencies, local government, local communities, freight and logistics companies and other transport and industry stakeholders to ensure successful integrated transport planning occurs and transport issues are effectively managed. Coordinate the development and documentation of clear strategic narratives and priorities for regional transport planning and strategies that articulate the current and future performance needs of the transport system, including creating an evidence base and analyse of relevant regional indicators to support the needs. Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of regional transport projects, events and programs. Coordinate departmental input and representation on local and regional strategic and land use planning activities and coordinate whole of transport portfolio input into strategic planning activities. Work closely within the Department, other portfolio agencies, government agencies, local government and regional leadership groups to integrate transport considerations into land use, strategic planning and economic development activities. Review and coordinate briefs and presentations on regional transport strategy and network planning. Help deliver the Department's Inclusion Strategy and other initiatives for improved economic and social outcomes by liaising with Aboriginal communities. In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities. Key Selection Criteria - Summary The ideal candidate will demonstrate accomplished strategic planning by envisioning future possibilities, translating strategic directions into daily activities, and employing environmental scanning to monitor trends and gather comprehensive information through diverse networks and systems. They will excel in communication, adeptly preparing clear, concise written materials tailored to audience needs and ensuring effective formatting. In stakeholder management, they will secure agreement and support through indirect influence and expert involvement, aligning strategies with stakeholder needs and organizational contexts. As team managers, they will foster cooperation, respect diverse working styles, and facilitate conflict resolution. They will excel in partnering and co-creation by identifying common issues and innovative solutions for mutual benefit. Their critical thinking prowess allows them to handle complexity, analyse concepts, and generate creative ideas that drive workplace improvements. They will actively seek new ideas, influence events, and reflect on experiences to continually enhance practices and promote innovation.
Personal Attributes The ideal candidate will work collaboratively by cooperating with others, sharing information, acknowledging efforts, and stepping in to help when needed. They will demonstrate flexibility and adaptability by accepting changed priorities comfortably, responding quickly to changes, and effectively collaborating with external teams.
Qualifications and Experience Multiyear experience in transport or land planning would be desirable. A relevant tertiary degree, particularly in transport or land use planning, would be well regarded.
