Tax Analyst (Maternity Cover) – Melbourne CBD
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Tax Analyst to join a well-established Taxation team for a fixed-term contract, covering maternity leave until July 2025. Based in the heart of Melbourne CBD, this role offers a dynamic and fast-paced environment where you will play a key part in managing critical tax compliance obligations for a prominent energy and utilities organisation.
Your Role in the Team:
As a Tax Analyst, you will take on the responsibility of ensuring accurate and timely indirect and direct tax compliance for a number of entities, including well-known electricity distribution networks. You will be tasked with preparing and reviewing monthly and annual indirect tax returns such as BAS/GST, FBT, payroll tax, and withholding tax, in addition to managing the income tax returns for the business and its associated entities. Collaboration will be key, as you engage with various internal teams to gain a deeper understanding of business processes and their tax implications. Your ability to streamline and improve existing systems, policies, and processes will be crucial to maintaining tax integrity and operational efficiency across the business.
Key Responsibilities: Prepare and review a range of indirect and direct tax returns, including BAS/GST, FBT, payroll tax, and withholding taxes.Ensure compliance with all tax obligations by lodging returns and making payments on time.Support financial accounting functions, including fixed asset reconciliation and tax-effect accounting for financial reporting.Assist with audits and ATO risk reviews, providing the necessary documentation and insights.Engage with business areas to raise tax awareness and enhance tax processes.Continuously review systems, policies, and processes to ensure efficiency and compliance.What We're Looking for:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax compliance within large corporate environments, coupled with exceptional attention to detail and a focus on continuous improvement. You should be an advanced user of Microsoft Excel and have a working knowledge of SAP Finance. The following qualifications and experience will set you up for success:
Tertiary qualifications in accounting or commerce (CPA or ICA preferred)In-depth knowledge of income tax and indirect tax legislationPrior experience in a corporate tax compliance roleFamiliarity with fixed asset accounting policies and principlesTax-effect accounting experienceProficiency in SAP Finance (and FAR applications)Why Join This Team?
