Senior Suicide Prevention Peer Worker (HEO) - Port Macquarie Community HealthWhat you'll be doing
This position provides support to consumers of the Safe Haven service as well as provide senior peer leadership to peer workers across the Mid North Coast Local Health District Towards Zero Suicides Initiatives.
You will use your personal lived experience of suicidal crisis or caring for someone experiencing suicidal crisis to provide appropriate responsive care and support in a warm, welcoming, non-clinical environment, working with other professionals to support and link guests with appropriate services.
This contemporary service is staffed by peer workers with lived experience of suicide and the service runs Thursday – Sunday including afterhours weekends and public holidays.
Where you'll be working Mid North Coast Local Health District is a government funded health organisation that covers an area of 11,335 square kilometres extending from Port Macquarie in the south to Coffs Harbour in the north.
MNCLHD provides a diverse range of services to a population of approximately 215,000 people.
It has a workforce of 4,694 across seven hospital sites and 12 Community Health Centres.

This is a Category A position. Recommended applicants will be reviewed for compliance with NSW Health policy directive for Category A positions prior to offer.

Salary will be accordance with NSW Health State Awards for the advertised classification/s.
A TALENT POOL MAY BE CREATED FOR FUTURE ROLES AND WILL REMAIN VALID FOR 18 MONTHS. Minimum of an appropriate degree of a recognised University or College of Advance Education requiring a minimum of three years full time study or other qualifications deemed equivalent and/or demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in health education and/or health promotion theory and evidence-based practice.Understanding of and commitment to consumer led recovery principles with the ability to utilise personal lived and living experience of suicidal crisis to support others with their own wellbeing journey.Ability to utilise the lived experience of suicide to support others with their own mental health recovery journey, whilst drawing on effective strategies to maintain wellness.Demonstrated ability in providing leadership within teams and peer supervision with at least 3 years' experience as a peer worker and have a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work qualification.Demonstrated ability to advocate for an individual and at a systems level to improve access to quality mental health services for consumers.Effective written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated computer literacy with the ability to use relevant software programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).Demonstrated high level of organisational and planning skills to organise both individual and team work daily.Hold a current Driver's License valid within Australia and ability to travel and work across different locations as required.Need more information?
