Provide independent adult speech pathology clinical services to inpatients of the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH) to facilitate patient flow and earlier safe patient discharge.
This is a new role within the Speech Pathology and Audiology department and represents an exciting opportunity to help build the Allied Health weekend early discharge service provided to targeted priority Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs). The role will work primarily within the Acute Stroke, Neurosurgery and Internal Medicine wards, but may be required to provide support to other wards as clinical need arises.
About you Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
Exercise independent professional clinical judgement in providing speech pathology clinical services of a complex nature where principles, procedures, techniques, or methods require expansion, adaptation, or modification, without the need for direct regular clinical practice supervision. Clinical services include the assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex communication disorders, tracheostomy, and swallowing disorders to inpatients within the RBWH identified for weekend and Monday discharge. Clinical services will be delivered in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.Identify and develop evidence based clinical practices, procedures, protocols, and resources to enhance the delivery of speech pathology services at a local, HHS and statewide level to support the continuum of care and the provision of a multi-disciplinary health service for patients of the RBWH.Work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary AH PPF Service/Weekend Discharge Service and inpatient teams and provide high level clinical advice and advocacy to facilitate earlier and safe patient discharge.
