Base Salary $117,116 - $132,079 + 17% superannuation
About Sydney Cytometry
The Sydney Cytometry facility is a joint initiative of Centenary Institute and The University of Sydney. At The University of Sydney, Sydney Cytometry sits within the Core Research Facilities program, as one of eight key facilities. Sydney Cytometry, in collaboration with key groups and facilities, is working to expand and develop world leading spatial biology capabilities for researchers both within and outside of the University. We are committed to the development and transfer of expertise in quantitative cell biology to answer questions in biomedical research, applied clinical research and clinical trials. We also support the development of novel diagnostic tools for cancer and other health disorders.
About the opportunity
As the Senior Cytometry Specialist - Spatial Biology, you will proactively provide expert technical management for the facility with a strong focus on supporting the implementation and utilisation of spatial biology technology in Sydney Cytometry and in the Sydney Biomedical Accelerator (SBA). Within this role you will also leverage your knowledge and expertise to provide high level advice and training to support researchers and commercial partners achieve their desired research outcomes.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
work within a dynamic team, reporting to the Academic Director, Sydney Cytometry
manage the spatial biology resources within the Sydney Cytometry facility, ensuring the research requirements and objectives are met effectively
provide expert advice, sound technical research support and assistance to researchers and other staff working in the facility
collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as facility management and other research teams, to ensure that the facility's spatial biology capabilities are fully integrated into the Sydney Biomedical Accelerator's overall research strategy
provide expert data analysis advice and support to researchers and other staff working in the facility
ensure that reporting and documentation requirements are met, including governance, in conjunction with operations management for the facility
stay up to date with the latest advancements in spatial biology research and identify new approaches that could be applied to the facility's research projects
develop novel approaches to spatial biology challenges.
About you
PhD in Biological sciences or a related field
strong technical expertise and extensive experience in at least one of the following capabilities: spatial biology, transcriptomics, multiplex tissue assays; including experience in operating and troubleshooting the corresponding instrumentation
extensive experience supporting or performing cell-based research in at least one of the following: histology, molecular biology, multiplex tissue or cell assays
experience in devising solutions for research including post-processing and analysis for the transformation of data into publishable information and results
demonstrated ability to participate in and promote projects driving the development of novel, innovative spatial biology approaches
demonstrated ability to supervise, train and provide mentorship to staff, researchers and students using the laboratory facilities to meet the key accountabilities
extensive experience performing data analysis, particularly image processing and spatial analysis approaches, utilizing programmatic tools such as R or Python.
