About the role
As a senior solicitor working in the Broken Hill office your focus is to provide legal advice and representation to clients of Legal Aid NSW on more complex matters in the Local and District Courts. The advice and representation you provide will assist some of the most vulnerable members of the community.
Additionally, you may be responsible for supervising and mentoring junior legal staff.
You will also develop key relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the private profession, legal assistance providers and the courts.
This role will provide Legal Aid services and representation to clients based in the Wilcannia and Wenworth regions on monthly basis and will involve the need for travel.

You will be an experienced criminal, lawyer with a commitment to delivering high quality, culturally appropriate legal services to legally aided clients.
You will be a compassionate and principled person who can lead by example in growing cultural safety practices in the office for both staff and clients. You will be passionate about advocating for your clients.

The Broken Hill office of Legal Aid NSW services Broken Hill, Wilcannia, Wentworth and surrounding areas. The office has four full time experienced criminal lawyers, two full time family lawyers, a full time civil lawyer and a number of administration staff as well as welcoming a range of visiting lawyers from all over NSW delivering local services including Legal Aid specialist services such as Family Law Services for Aboriginal Communities and Civil Law Services for Aboriginal Communities.
The essential requirements for this role
You must:
· be admitted or be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW
· be able to provide a current NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us
· be willing to do a Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check
· hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)
· ability to travel for work
