Job: 2025-843454 | Full-Time | Permanent | Flexible in NSW

The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement.
We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

What will you do?
In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of the highly skilled and high-performing Family Law Practice.
As a Senior Solicitor, you will provide high-quality legal advice and representation to Aboriginal clients in Family Law matters.
You will work autonomously, with regular consultation from the Principal Solicitor on complex cases and take on supervision responsibilities for less experienced staff.
Your decisions will be guided by relevant legislation, professional obligations, and ALS policies and guidelines.

Each day, you can expect to:
The delivery of early intervention legal services including advice and non-court assistance to clientsConducting an efficient and effective legal practice in Family Law including via an Outreach program as requiredDetermining applications for merit under delegated authorityComplying with ALS policies and practice management standards and undertaking all related administrative and case management activitiesContributing to the development and review of ALS procedures and guidelinesContributing to the development and review of law reform and policy initiatives as Family Law issues ariseWho are we looking for ?
You are a highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
You will be able to demonstrate:
Legal qualifications and NSW Practising CertificateRegistered on the High Court Roll of PractitionersStrong knowledge and experience in Family LawCapacity to represent Aboriginal clients and undertake an advocacy role before the Courts.Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to provide quality customer service in a high-volume work environment.Proven capacity to identify and understand legal issues facing socially and economically disadvantaged Aboriginal peoples.Join us and become part of an organisation that deeply values integrity, teamwork, and a commitment to social impact.
