The purpose of this role is to:
Provide high quality legal advice and representation to clients and to assist them to resolve their legal problemsAssist the Cluster Manager with the management of the Dubbo practice, and day to day running of the officeProvide high quality appearances and act as advocate in: List work; Short matters; Defended Hearings; Committal Proceedings; District Court Appeals and Sentences; District Court Trials (instructing counsel and appearing as an advocate in consultation with supervisors) and Coronial InquestsPrepare and research representation of Aboriginal clients in criminal matters and prepare briefs for counsel and attend to instructing counsel as directedWhy Join the ALS Team?

The Senior Solicitor is part of the Criminal Law Practice based in Dubbo, NSW and reports directly to their respective Cluster Manager/Managing Solicitor.
The Senior Solicitor will be responsible for:
Provide high quality legal advice and representation to Aboriginal clients and assist them in resolving their legal problems and undertake Court responsibilities covering: Local Court; Circuit travel; Children's Court; Coroner's Court; District Court and Crime Commission (if required)Assist the Cluster Manager in the management and rostering of the summary crime practice, and the District Court short matters practice;Provide high quality appearances including: List work; Short matters; Defended Hearings; Committal Proceedings; District Court Appeals and Sentences; District Court Trials (instructing counsel and appearing as an advocate in consultation with supervisors) and Coronial InquestsPrepare and research representation of Aboriginal clients in criminal matters and prepare briefs for counsel and attend to instructing counsel as directedDemonstrate continuing respect and support for Aboriginal cultural practices in dealing with clients, their families, communities and staff; as an employee of the ALS, continue to learn about the customs and history of local Aboriginal peopleAbout You
We're looking for someone who brings:
Legal qualifications and a NSW Practicing Certificate with a minimum of 4 years' experience in Criminal Law.Extensive experience in the conduct of complex summary and EAGP matters.In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Criminal Law, including practice and procedure.Ability to display sound judgment and proven capacity to provide high quality legal representation and advice to Aboriginal clients.Desirable Current valid unrestricted NSW Driver's licence and a willingness to drive in metropolitan and country locations, travel intrastate and stay overnight or longer.Supervisory experience in the context of a legal practice.Pre-Employment Requirements
