We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Social Planner to join our Active Communities & Partnerships team on a temporary basis until December 2025.
About this Role The Senior Social Planner will work with the organisation to support and inform Council to respond to community issues strategically. They will undertake research, community engagement and policy analysis to inform their advice and approach.
This role will develop, implement and review Council's social and community focused policies, strategies and plans, including the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.
About You The successful candidate will have:
Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to convey complex social and public health and wellbeing concepts to diverse audiences in plain English.An ability to think creatively to integrate social and health approaches across Council in impactful ways.Up-to-date knowledge and interest in emerging social and public health issues, from community, political and evidence-based perspectives.Strong organisational and project management skills, capable of planning and delivering complex projects with a focus on stakeholder needs and evaluation methods.Ability to combine best practice and evidence-based approaches with the needs of Council, committees, community service providers and community members to develop locally relevant and innovative solutions to wicked problems.What You'll Be Working On Over the 12-month contract, you will be focused on:
Developing and delivering the new Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan from community engagement through to endorsement.Building a stronger understanding of Latrobe City's diverse community by communicating with internal stakeholders.Identifying and leveraging opportunities to incorporate health and wellbeing into the work of others and providing support through research and policy analysis to provide options to do so.Leading the creation and embedding of core social policies to guide the organisation around community access and inclusion.Creating an effective mechanism to track the progress of social and public health and wellbeing initiatives and using this information to improve how we work.You will need: Substantial experience in developing and implementing initiatives, policy options and strategic community plans to respond to social, health and wellbeing related issues for the community.Degree or Diploma in social planning or other related field with some relevant experience or lesser qualification with substantial experience in social policy and community planning, preferably in a local government setting. Excellent communication skills including the ability to adapt communications to an identified purpose, build relationships and gain stakeholder cooperation across varied levels of understanding and/or experience.The successful applicant will be required to apply for and satisfactorily obtain a National Police Check and a valid employee Working with Children Check.
