Details of the offer

The Opportunity CSL Global Research is looking for a Senior Research Scientist to join our Analytical Biochemistry group. You will be based at the Bio21 Institute Parkville site and the CSL Melbourne Elizabeth Street headquarters, depending on the project phase.
Reporting to the Associate Director – Analytical Biochemistry, you will plan and conduct mass spectrometry-based studies supporting plasma and recombinant protein characterisation and research discovery studies using cutting edge mass spectrometry approaches. Your role will involve development of research approaches for early characterisation of drug candidates, identification, and quantification of their key attributes, implement early developability assessment, as well as ongoing late phase mode-of-action studies.
The Role Develop advanced mass spectrometry-based techniques in combination with other orthogonal approaches to support structural characterisation of plasma and recombinant proteins.Independently develop and improve research strategies to effectively identify and characterise post-translational modifications of novel drug candidates and their associated heterogeneities with particular emphasis on product performance and safety.Stay technically up to date with cutting edge mass spectrometry approaches and maintain awareness of key scientific/technical strategies as well as innovative technological developments in mass spectrometry, specifically for biologics.Lead and oversee experimental work in areas of direct responsibility as assigned by the Associate Director of Analytical Biochemistry.Present results from both independent and collaborative laboratory work to internal and external collaborators as required to facilitate smooth progression of CSL R&D projects.Perform other operational and administrative support activities as per requirements from department, project, and organisational priorities.Lead and support matrix teams consisting of Scientist, Research Scientist and other Senior Scientists. Your skills and experience PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, mass spectrometry, or a related field.5+ years' experience working in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry protein mass spectrometry field, specifically in the areas of protein characterisation.Extensive expertise in operating and maintaining mass spectrometry instrumentation, particularly as applied to protein, peptide and glycan analysis (e.g. ESI-MS/MS, MALDI-MS/MS, good knowledge of qTOF's, QqQ and Orbitrap instruments).Proficient in mass spectrometry data analysis tools, specifically for in-depth protein characterisation, product attribute validation and monitoring.Demonstrated experience in analytical chemistry with strong background in protein characterisation using various mass spectrometry-based techniques.Demonstrated experience in protein biochemistry and implementation of other complementary approaches such as SDS-PAGE, western blotting, electrophoresis and near-native chromatography with subsequent analysis using mass spectrometry.Ability to vertically and matrix manage teams of high functioning individuals and lead independent project teams.Strong Interpersonal skills reflected in the ability to manage "up", "down" and "across" in a matrix management organization.Effective time management, excellent technical communication skills, including scientific report writing and presentations.A collaborative approach to working cross functionally across research and development groups and commercial functions.
