Innovative and collaborative workplace with fantastic flexibility Join CSIRO - Australia's premier research organisation The Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre is seeking a talented individual with experience in HPC and Quantum Computing to join Pawsey's Quantum Hub as a Quantum Supercomputing Researcher. As a Quantum Supercomputing Researcher, you will work collaboratively with researchers to assist them in exploiting the vast opportunities enabled by quantum computers and the supercomputers operated by Pawsey centre by designing, testing, and optimizing quantum algorithms and integrating them with classical software and hardware systems. A technical aptitude, strong interpersonal skills, and a desire to learn are essential to support the researchers and to grow with technology. Your duties will include: Develop hybrid methodologies that combine classical and quantum approaches, enabling robust scalability classical HPC systems while harnessing the potential of quantum devices. Apply quantum computing approaches to solve challenging problems of practical significance. Provide specialist advice and develop training to help translate classical computing algorithms to quantum algorithms to enable their utilisation of quantum computers and the supercomputing resources at Pawsey. Foster collaborative projects with researchers, universities, communities, software developers, vendors, and other international centres and undertake independent research to generate high impact research outputs. Communicate research findings through scientific publications, reports, networking, conferences, and teaching. Participate in evaluations of current and upcoming quantum computing technologies to identify suitable technologies and inform the Pawsey infrastructure and services roadmap. Location: Australia Wide Salary: AU$110,038k- AU$119,080k plus up to 15.4% superannuation Tenure: Specified term of 2 years Reference: 95946 To be considered you will need: Essential: PhD (or soon to be completed PhD) in the area of quantum computation or directly relevant areas in physics and scientific computing. Demonstrated expertise in scientific computing. Knowledge of compiled languages (such as C/C++, Fortran, Rust, Julia), interpreted languages (such as Python) and quantum computing packages (such as Qiskit, PennyLane, Qasm). Demonstrated research performance (such as scientific papers, conferences) especially in the development of quantum algorithms and experience running quantum algorithms using simulators or quantum devices. Demonstrated effective communication skills including the ability to articulate technical concepts to a diverse range of clients. The ability to work effectively in a team and carry out tasks autonomously. Desirable: Demonstrated expertise in the support, development and optimisation of supercomputing applications including GPU-based and distributed architectures and running on supercomputing systems. Demonstrated expertise in parallel programming models, such as OpenMP, MPI, HIP or CUDA. Familiarity with software engineering practices (such as version control). Demonstrated ability and willingness to contribute novel ideas and approaches in support of scientific investigations.
