Scrutiny of Acts & Regulations CommitteeDepartment of the Legislative AssemblyOngoing, Full-Time, PoV Grade 5.2, base salary range $117,718 - $128,897About the role Reporting to the Executive Officer of the Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee (SARC), you will provide high-level legal advice to the Committee in respect of the scrutiny of regulations, legislative instruments and human rights pursuant to the requirements of the Subordinate Legislation Act 1994. A primary function of the role is to assess every regulation and legislative instrument tabled in the Parliament to ensure compliance with the Act.
You will also coordinate and attend meetings of the Regulation Review Subcommittee and prepare the annual review detailing the activities of the Subcommittee.
This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who enjoys the challenges of scrutinising legislation and working in an environment with tight deadlines.
About you
Your communication and interpersonal skills will be a strength, particularly your success in maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse range of contacts.
You will be tertiary qualified in law or have significant relevant experience in this area. Demonstrated experience in interpreting and analysing legislation is essential and a broad knowledge of the Subordinate Legislation Act 1994 and Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 is preferred.
You will have excellent research, writing and editing skills and experience in producing research reports for a non-technical audience.
