The Opportunity We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Senior ResearchOfficer to join a specialised, high-performing team, supportingcritical state and national research projects across the Aquaticand Livestock Sciences Division.
As the Senior Research Officer, you will provide high-levelscientific support to the Pelagic Fishes Sub-Program, the broaderFisheries Program, and across the Aquatic and Livestock SciencesDivision. 
This includes coordinating and undertaking a range of field,research and laboratory work that delivers high-quality scientificdata and information to inform and facilitate the sustainablemanagement of fishery resources in southern Australian waters. TheSenior Research Officer contributes directly to biological andecological research on small pelagic fishes to support stockassessment and sustainable management of fisheries resources,including South Australia's Sardine Fishery.

Special Conditions Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorilycomplete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made anoffer of employment.Australian residency or current works permit is required(responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a currentwork permit).Opportunity up to June 2026.To be successful you will need: A post-graduate degree in science with a major infisheries, zoology or related disciplineExpertise in fisheries research, biology and ecology offinfish species, with an in-depth knowledge of stockassessmentA track record in working under reduced professionaldirection and applying initiative in the planning and conductof complex field research, data collection and analysis, andpreparing findings for technical reports and presentations,including a high level of numerical and statistical skills andthe use of a diverse range of PC applications such as MicrosoftOffice, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and R.Proven research and communication skills. This positionwill require the ability to communicate to various keystakeholders across Government, industry and academia.To undertake interstate, statewide and internationaltravel, including work outside of normal working hours such asfield trips on research and commercial vessels that includeovernight absences and extensive periods of time spent at sea.Flexibility will be considered, where possible, to accommodatediverse schedules and responsibilities outside of work.To follow work, health and safety obligations and relevantorganisational procedures/protocolsTo be willing to participate in emergency preparedness,response and recovery activities required by governmentagenciesTo possess a current C class driver's licence and bewilling to drive.To complete additional training as required (e.g.coxswains, elements of shipboard safety, emergencymanagement).Remuneration
PO2 - $86,950 min - $96,223 max per annum, plus superannuation
