The role of the Senior Project Officer is to work in consultation with the Manager and oversee a team of specialist staff to focus on minimising the frequency and duration that young people are held in police watchhouses. The team's functions include coordinating the provision of a range of welfare, support and advocacy services to young people and their families when young people are detained in watchhouses. The team works collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve these outcomes.
The position is based in Atherton; however, it will oversee the whole of Tablelands Cassowary Coast Region's response to young people held in police watchhouses. This role will require travel to Watchhouses and Youth Justice Service Centres within the region.

Key Responsibilities: Provide project management including planning, implementing and monitoring projects on behalf of the branch, service area or department, ensuring quality outputs are delivered within agreed timeframes. Research and analyse information relevant to allocated projects.Provide culturally appropriate supervision and leadership to a team of staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality service in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures and contemporary best practice.Prepare submissions, reports and correspondence on sensitive and diverse issues as required.Deliver high-quality advice and support to colleagues and senior management on a range of topics including planning and reporting.Provide inter and intra directorate liaison on behalf of the branch and service area and represent the department in various cross-government forums as necessary.Participate as part of a cohesive, high-performing team in which all members' contributions are valued and encouraged while effectively using human and financial resources to optimise the performance of the team and deliver agreed outcomes.Applications to remain current for 12 months.
