In this capacity, the role is responsible for scheduling, managing, documenting and delivering projects of work, as well as being responsible and accountable for managing key stakeholder relationships, project quality, change control and risk management processes.The role also manages resources related to their projects, including staff and financial and performance outputs for project contributors. Managing staff resources may be either directly or via matrix management. The position is responsible for assisting in the management of staff outcomes as they relate to project delivery, regardless of reporting line relationship.Key DutiesSet work plan/schedule to achieve delivery of objectives as part of end-to-end project management of critical project/sApplying specialised knowledge (i.e. Project management skills) to set standards for project delivery and provide guidance to the project team and stakeholdersWork within project team to manage and contribute to delivery of project prioritiesUsing expertise to interpret technical reports and requirements documents and, if required, convert technical language to business language for consumption by business stakeholdersActively engage and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with areas internal and external to the division to support the delivery of project and programme outcomesAssist in discussions to manage prioritisation for current and future deliverablesApplying complex decision-making skills to undertake problem definition and issue analysis to present solutions and recommendations to ensure project deliveryContribute to, manage and report on allocated project workRepresent el1, director, and/or work areas' interests in building relationships and negotiating positive outcomes with stakeholders across the department and external agencies, including technical representatives, business experts and senior levels of the organisationApplying high level influencing, negotiating and persuasive skills to ensure desired project/programme/departmental objectives are deliveredProvision of recommendations for sign off to director, assistant secretary and in some cases the first assistant secretaryUndertaking project risk assessments and risk management activitiesEvaluate and report on project management methodology and recommending process improvementsIdentify project dependencies and monitor flow-on impactsAssist in building capability within the project team and it delivery areas and eliminating single points of failure.Preferred education requirements for this role include formal qualifications in project management (PRINCE2 and/or agile certifications) and business analysis, as well as 5 years' practical application of project management skills working in medium to large work environments. Experience in working in government environments with an understanding of budget allocation or funding principles and risk management is also critical.
