About the team The Oil and Gas Division is an integral part of the ongoing energy transition–in Australia, Asia and globally.
The three branches work on a wide variety of onshore and offshore resources issues including policy and regulatory functions, developing and interpreting legislation and program delivery.

The Gas Branch advises Government on gas supply policy in the context of the Government's long-term goals of energy transition.
The Branch was also responsible for developing and releasing the Future Gas Strategy.
We are currently looking to fill on-going EL1 and APS 6 positions in the branch.
The Offshore Strategy Branch is responsible for providing policy and advice to support the safe and responsible regulation of Australia's offshore oil and gas resources.
The branch is leading a review of the offshore environmental management regime to ensure it is fit for purpose in a decarbonising economy and reflects best practice for offshore environmental management.
We are currently looking to fill ongoing EL1 and APS 6 positions in branch.
The work of Offshore Resources Branch is an interesting mix of policy advice and delegated decisions underpinned by technical, economic and legislative analysis.
We are responsible for administering functions relating to offshore petroleum, greenhouse gas storage and minerals activity.
We advise the government on matters relating to greenhouse gas storage, petroleum exploration, development and production and offshore LNG projects.
The policy issues we work on are key to Australia's energy transition and include the implementation of some offshore aspects of the government's Future Gas Strategy.
We are looking to fill ongoing EL1 and APS6 positions in the branch.

The Offshore Strategy Branch is responsible for supporting the development and continuous improve of key regulatory settings for the offshore petroleum and greenhouse gas storage industries.

As an APS Level 6 employee, you will: be able to undertake complex work under limited direction,  take responsibility for managing work projects to deliver results, take initiative and will exercise judgement to solve problems and produce high-quality advice for decision-makers, be able to communicate confidently and persuasively, and build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
As an Executive Level 1 employee, you will:  be able to undertake work that is very complex or sensitive and operate under broad direction, exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role, which may include providing direction to others, contributing to team planning, and supervising or mentoring staff, demonstrate sound decision-making and judgement to provide advice and deliver results that contribute to strategic priorities,  need to communicate clearly, persuasively, and convey information in a way that is tailored to the audience, and be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with a network of key internal and external stakeholders.
What you will do As an Assistant Manager (Executive Level 1), in addition to the below duties and in accordance with the APSCs Work Level Standards for this classification, you will:  harness the expertise of your team to progress sensitive and complex issues help shape the work program for your section support the Manager and Senior Executive to deliver outcomes provide leadership, guidance and mentoring for peers and junior staff establish and promote positive working relationships with stakeholders proactively identify and implement process and system improvements to deliver on the work program under tight resources work with limited direction while displaying flexibility, discretion, and judgement.
In line with the APS Work level standards, EL1 candidates are expected to demonstrate a higher level of expertise, leadership, strategic thinking, lead more complex work and potentially supervise and lead teams.
As an Senior Policy/Program Officer (APS Level 6), in accordance with the APSCs Work Level Standards for this classification, you will:  Provide expert advice on more complex areas of policy Work with independence, subject to limited direction against established priorities and practices to deliver quality outcomes.
Prepare draft reports, briefing papers, speeches, Ministerial correspondence and discussion papers for review by Executive level employees Research, interpret and apply legislation, including maintaining knowledge of relevant legislation and international conventions Monitor changes in the broader work environment that may impact on work objectives.
Supervise team members performing related roles.
Eligibility To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
