The Obesity Prevention Team leads the development and implementation of evidence-based, statewide strategic public health policy, priority areas and programs to prevent obesity and increase population level healthy eating.
This includes funding the delivery of statewide, population-based obesity prevention programs in partnership with a range of non-government agencies, and the development and maintenance of effective partnerships across a range of sectors in order to address the individual, community and environmental factors influencing obesity.
About the position: The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for:
providing authoritative advice and contributing to strategic public health policy development in relation to healthy lifestyle promotion and obesity preventionundertaking research and policy analysis on issues relevant to obesity preventionassisting with the development of strategic policy, and options for implementation to ensure appropriate resource allocation and implementation through government contracting and key state and national initiativespreparing discussion papers, submissions, reports, briefings and Ministerial correspondenceAbout you: To successfully carry out the role of Senior Policy Officer, you will possess:
excellent written skills and demonstrated experience in preparing high quality submissions and reportsstrong interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise with key internal and external stakeholdersa proven track record in developing and implementing evidence-based population health promotion policy or programsthe ability to undertake research and/or evaluationproject management skills and experiencea thorough understanding of population health, health promotion and/or prevention principles and approachesThis is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full Time 12 month positions with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.
