Join one of WA's most innovative and forward-thinking agencies and be part of something rewarding and exciting. The Department is looking to establish a pool of experienced Senior Planners (SCL3) and Principal Planners (SCL4).
This pool will be used to fill vacancies across the agency for the next 24 months.
The Senior Planner is primarily responsible for the administration of statutory functions - including significant development proposals - associated with relevant legislation, policy and strategic frameworks in collaboration with all stakeholders.
You will help deliver a modern and effective planning system and framework by assessing and reporting on a range of applications, including development applications, subdivisions and structure plans, building strong partnerships with Government, agencies and community service provisions and the public.
The Principal Planner provides comprehensive specialist technical advice and assists with the delivery of the Department and State government priorities to create a contemporary and strategic planning system for Western Australia.
You will investigate, manage, prioritise and coordinate multi-disciplinary projects related to statutory and strategic planning matters – including significant development proposals, and technical expertise and representation at the State Administrative Tribunal.
There are a range of positions and this is an open pool recruitment process for permanent full-time positions, however, consideration can be given to applicants seeking part time opportunities.
Suitable applicants will be placed in a Pool from which appointments may be made for similar vacancies for a period of 24 months.

To be successful for the SENIOR PLANNER (SCL3) position, you need to demonstrate: An accredited tertiary degree qualification, in Urban and Regional Planning and/or Development or approved equivalent.Demonstrated extensive experience in working in the WA planning system, including knowledge of planning at local government level, with substantial knowledge of planning practices, legislation, policy and systems.Demonstrated extensive experience in managing significant, complex projects.Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships.Demonstrated ability in conceptual and analytical skills and the ability to communicate the findings.Highly developed written and oral communications, presentation and interpersonal skills, including proven capacity to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders in a multidisciplinary environment.Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context of Personal Leadership as outlined below.To be successful for the PRINCIPAL PLANNER (SCL4) position, you need to demonstrate: An accredited tertiary degree qualification, in Urban and Regional Planning and/or Development or an equivalent approved by DPLH Human Resources.Demonstrated extensive, in-depth, knowledge and experience in working in the WA planning system, including planning at local government level, with substantial knowledge of planning practices, legislation, policy and systems.Ability and experience in providing high-level oral and written specialist planning technical advice, report presentation and liaison at a senior level with cross-government, external and community stakeholders.Extensive experience leading and managing significant complex projects/matters, with a proven track-record of seeing complex planning projects/matters to completion.Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context of Leading Others as outlined below.About us For more information on what we do, our recruitment process, and why working at the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is an attractive proposition, please visit the Department page on the DPLH website.
