About the Role **This a Fixed Term Position until 30th June 2025** The Senior Planner works to deliver the Victorian Government's planning strategies, priorities and initiatives for metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, including protecting the sustainability and agricultural viability of peri-urban areas covering Victoria's distinctive areas and landscapes, and Melbourne's green wedges.
The Senior Planner leads the development and implementation of complex land use planning and development projects. It requires a motivated individual with demonstrated experience in both strategic and statutory planning, project delivery, stakeholder management and governance in the public or private sectors. The role works in partnership with Traditional Owners and collaboratively across government, with the private sector and other key stakeholders.
 
The role entails leading and managing major land use planning and development projects, ensuring they align with business objectives and targets. Responsibilities include providing statutory and strategic planning services, managing resources, budgets, and contracts, and overseeing project milestones and deliverables.
The role also involves leading community engagement efforts and conducting technical investigations and research on planning matters. Additionally, it involves providing timely advice to senior management, contributing planning expertise to government initiatives, and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders. The position emphasises fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture, supporting team effectiveness through knowledge sharing, and practising cultural safety to create inclusive environments free from discrimination.
 
Key Selection Criteria You will demonstrate proficiency in policy design and development by effectively interpreting and applying relevant policies your work, drafting policies and business cases in consultation with stakeholders, and conducting thorough research and critical analysis on gathered data and evidence.
You will excel in defining tasks to achieve agreed outcomes, coordinate and guide others in their execution, monitor progress, and take corrective action, when necessary, to establish yourself as a thought leader in project management.
You will demonstrate your critical thinking and problem-solving skills to deeply understand legislation and guidelines, analyse available ideas to address problems, and seek additional information when needed to make informed decisions. You will maintain and add value for clients or stakeholders, facilitate connections between relevant parties, monitor satisfaction levels, and adeptly handle stakeholder issues.
