With continued growth across our business, we are looking to appoint talented and energetic town planners to a variety of roles in our Policy and Urban Analytics Team, including Senior Planner, Associate, and Associate Director. While the work will primarily be NSW focused from our Sydney CBD office, for a suitable candidate there is an opportunity for interstate applicants to work out of our Brisbane or Melbourne offices.

As urban planning specialists, we provide advice and services in strategic planning, statutory planning, integrated land use, social planning, transport planning, urban analytics, and planning tech.

About the role Supported by knowledgeable and experienced Directors, this role is focused on providing urban planning services in one or more of the following key areas:
Planning proposals, rezonings, and development advisoryIntegrated land use and infrastructure planning and precinct/master planningStrategic planning, social planning, and urban analytics.About you You're a high-performing driven individual who can demonstrate solid statutory and strategic urban planning knowledge while providing attentive, professional service to our valued clients.
Degree qualified in relevant disciplineExcellent written and verbal communication skillsMinimum 4 years' experience for Senior Planner position, with 6-8 years for more senior roles, preferably including work in both private and public planning rolesConfidence in decision making and ability to work independentlyAbility to astutely apply and articulate relevant statutory planning issuesAustralian citizen or appropriate work visaCommitment to workplace flexibility, diversity, equality, and environmental sustainabilityYour key responsibilities: Consultancy Services Employ a thorough understanding of land use and/or social planning principles at a strategic and technical level to provide practical and expert planning advice to clients and the project teamPrepare, or manage, the preparation of high-quality planning reports and deliverables including but not limited to planning proposals, development control plans, precinct/master plans, strategic planning reports, and expert adviceInteract with technical professionals, the project team, and other stakeholders within multi-disciplinary planning projectsEnsure deadlines and project objectives are being achieved and meet company, client, and quality standardsRepresent Mecone as a key team leader at client workshops/meetings and provide advice on planning mattersMaintain direct and independent contact with senior government agency staff (Council, DPHI, etc.) to progress planning applications and consulting work.Project and Team Management Ability to manage and progress projects with minimal oversight, including direct contact with client PMsAwareness and tracking of project budgets and prepare monthly project invoices for review by DirectorsManagement and prioritization of competing deadlines, alerting Directors where capacity issues are foreseeableProvide guidance to junior staffAs required, manage team members to ensure deliverables are provided on time and within budget to client satisfaction.As required, manage subconsultants and ensure their deliverables are meeting deadlines and project objectives.Marketing and Business Development Prepare fee proposals and tender responsesMaintain awareness of planning trends and ability to identify further work opportunities from these for existing jobs and clientsIdentify business development opportunities and utilize your networks to facilitate business growthAs required, actively seek and source new business opportunities including arranging marketing meetings with potential or new clientsAs required, promote the Mecone brand in business functions and professional events.
