Founded in 2001, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia's largest human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum. We are an independent not-for-profit organisation whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well being. We champion the rights of people seeking asylum and mobilise a community of compassion to create lasting social and policy change.

Welcoming Authentic Courageous Collaborative About The Role
The Senior Paralegal assists the Associate Solicitors in coordinating the Legal Triage Program. They conduct client appointments, work closely with supervising lawyers on process improvements, and manage the triage area. In addition, they supervise both paid and volunteer support paralegals. Their responsibilities include initiating contact with new clients seeking assistance from HRLP, gathering relevant information, and triaging matters appropriately to ensure client dignity, empowerment, and reduced wait times. This is a part-time role at 0.6 FTE, 12-month fixed-term contract.
About You
The successful candidate will hold relevant qualifications, with previous experience in a similar role, as well as possess the following skills and expertise:
Paralegal qualification or minimum 3 years experience as a paralegal in a legal practice in Australia Excellent organisational skills and ability to adapt in a continually changing, high-volume environment Knowledge of legal professional and ethical responsibilities relating to client confidentiality and conflicts of interest Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with vulnerable individuals Strong written skills in English Ability to communicate legal processes in plain English Ability to support, coach and mentor volunteers Resourceful, collaborative and innovative approach to work Ability to adapt and contribute to growing and developing work environments Self-motivated and able to work independently, with a passion for the goals and values of the ASRC Knowledge of the policy context of practice with asylum seekers' visa categories/conditions, and the barriers faced by people seeking asylum in Australia Excellent computer skills including familiarity with MS applications; word, outlook, excel and databases Lived experience of seeking asylum in Australia is highly desirable. Knowledge of policy and issues impacting on people seeking asylum in Australia as well as previous experience working within a not-for-profit environment, would also be advantageous.
